Easter Weekend

We had a fun-filled weekend with both mine and Joseph’s families!  We do Easter baskets on Saturday morning, and being the not-so-on-top-of-things mom that I’ve been lately, the only thing I had bought was a PEZ dispenser for Ryan.  We haven’t done any “Easter Bunny” talk with him, so he wasn’t looking forward to anything anyway and just the fact that there were Easter baskets on the couch was enough out of the norm that he was excited.  My mom and MIL more than made up for what Easter didn’t bring to our house this year anyway!

For as long as I can remember, we’ve had an Easter egg hunt on the Saturday before Easter on my aunt and uncle’s farm.  We’ve carried on the tradition with the great-grandkids and they are at such a fun age for it!  The weather was perfect and the kids had a great time.

We always took a picture like this of all the cousins at the Easter egg hunt. This year, we did it with the great grandkids!

When we got home and put the kids to bed we decided to do some more work on the remodel project.  The marble for the fireplace had to be ordered and should be delivered today, so we’re hoping that we’ll have the surround in place by the end of the week.  With that project nearing completion, we decided to knock out a wall!  We have a long, narrow hallway that is quite dark.  At some point (we don’t think it’s original to the house) part of the hallway wall was opened up to look over the stairs.  It was about the size of a doorway and the railing was pretty ugly (OK, very ugly!).  We decided to knock out the remainder of the wall to help open up the hallway a bit and put in a new railing.  Ryan’s bed sits on the other side of the wall, and that kid slept through all of the hammering and tearing down!  I’m sure that Joseph will give a more detailed description of what is to come in this phase of the project on his blog, but here are a few pictures!  We’ve got a piece of pegboard tacked up to keep the little ones from taking a tumble over onto the stairs, but we’ve had to move the gate to the kitchen door so that they don’t have access to the hallway unless we’re right there with them.  Our living space is getting smaller and smaller and sometimes I wonder what we were thinking doing this project with three young kids!

We spent Sunday with the Z’s and I didn’t take a single picture! It’s been a while since Ryan’s seen some of his cousins, so they had a really great time chasing each other around the house. The only disaster of the day was that Ryan cut a hole in his new church shirt…right after I reminded him that we only cut paper (this makes the 3rd shirt-cutting incident with him). We had a yummy easter dinner and the kids had a little egg hunt.

We have had numerous cutting issues throughout the course of our 4 1/2 year olds life–maybe it stops one day!! Good luck with your house!
