All went well! The doctor suctioned out a TON of infected gunk, particularly in the right ear–crazy, because he’s NEVER been treated for an ear infection. Had it not been for his failed hearing screening at early intervention, who knows how long before we’d have noticed there was a problem.
Every kid that came out before him was screaming, frantic for their parents. The nurse came out with Owen and he was as happy as could be! The only time he fussed was when I had to take his Cheerios away so that we could head home. She said that he couldn’t drink his Motrin fast enough and then looked at her like “Hey, give me some more” when it was all gone. I’m pretty lucky to have kids that take medicine so willingly!
Hopefully we see some big improvements in him in the next few days. There’s still a chance that there is an underlying hearing problem, given his other risk factors, but it sounds like those little ears of his were pretty clogged up. We’ll have a repeat hearing test in about 10 days.
My friend Crystal had her twins in for tubes this morning as well, and we enjoyed hearing Gabriel in his post-op chatter in the recover room next to us! Hope everything went smoothly with both of your boys as well Crystal!

Hi Jen,
It sounds like your little guy is going through much of the same as my daughter. She failed several hearing tests, got tubes in March, and unfortunately, is still having some troubles. We should chat about it sometime.

I’m so glad things went so well for Owen. I know that getting tubes in isn’t pleasant, but let’s hope that’s all he needs to have done. Hopefully this will fix the problem.
